HEIC is Apple's format that many apps cannot read. PNG opens everywhere, including offline editors.

About the two formats
HEIC
HEIC is the format iPhones shoot in by default. Built on the HEVC video codec, it stores photos at roughly half the size of an equivalent JPG - but support outside the Apple ecosystem is still patchy.
PNG
PNG was designed as a lossless web format: it stores every pixel exactly and supports full transparency. That makes it the default choice for logos, icons, screenshots and any graphic with sharp edges or text.
